Even though nobody really knows what the world will look like twenty years from now, most of us seem to think we have a pretty good idea of the way car ownership will evolve.
We base our assumptions on the things we hear in the media and the manufacturers themselves tell us, and for some of us, the future doesn't sound bright at all. For one thing, it seems like the majority of cars - if not all - will use electric propulsion. However, if you like driving, not hearing the roar of a V8 engine is the least of your problems.

The worst part about our automotive industry is that it's heading toward an autonomous future. To top it all off, they say we won't even own cars anymore because ridesharing will make so much more sense once the vehicles can navigate on their own. The more rational voices say that ridesharing is precisely the domain where self-driving vehicles will debut, and it would take them significantly longer to take over private ownership.

Jaguar seems to buy into these predictions as it unveils the Sayer steering wheel - a device that has almost nothing in common with the one we're used to calling that at the moment. Instead, it's described as "your trusted companion" that can carry out "hundreds of tasks."

It is an intelligent and connected device that will manage your interaction with your vehicles. That's right, plural because even though you can still own your car and drive use it at your will, you can also opt for a shared program and choose any vehicle you want or is more suited to the occasion.

You'll be doing all this from the comfort of your living room - or, if you're anything like us and like to make the most of your time, from the comfort of a much smaller room in your house - since Sayer can double as modern sculpture as well. The name the company chose for its futuristic gadget highlights the importance of its design: Malcolm Sayer was one of the most successful designers who worked for Jaguar between 1951 and 1970.
