Jaguar's New Vision Gran Turismo SV Virtual Endurance Racer Is Actually Real

The premium British automaker unveiled the 1,020-PS (1,006-hp) Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupé a little over a year ago as its virtual entry into the lucrative world of PlayStation-related automotive games. Now, just as Sony recently revealed an all-new iteration of the renowned gaming console, Jaguar has also updated the specifications of its online racer.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 video console was announced last year, but it was just last month when it finally reached most of its intended markets. Coincidence or not, Jaguar revealed the Vision Gran Turismo Coupé for Gran Turismo Sport players around the same time last year.

Now, with the PS5 out and about, it’s time for another neat concurrence – as the carmaker has revealed the evolved Vision Gran Turismo SV, a fully electric “virtual endurance race car designed by Jaguar and engineered by Jaguar SV for Gran Turismo.”

Unlike its Coupé predecessor, though, this one will also come to life in the real world, as the Jaguar Design division was tasked with creating a full-scale model and design study. It’s a big step, but that doesn’t mean anyone will actually get the chance to own an example – outside of the virtual realm.

With that settled, the Vision GT SV comes with the standard setup “engineered” for the virtual world complete with optimized aero and thoroughly tested using the company’s advanced simulation tools. That means they probably had some fun time at work, all wrapped in a very professional casing.

Because we’re dealing with an evolution, the Vision GT SV features four electric motors instead of the Coupé’s three, and the Formula E-inspired input from Jaguar Racing brought the credentials to no less than 1,400 kW (1,903 PS / 1877 hp) and 3,360 Nm (2,478 lb-ft) of torque.

That’s enough for an unbelievably fast (if not for the virtual realm) sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in a mere 1.65 seconds, as well as a 255 mph (410 kph) maximum speed. No word on the electric range has been whispered, but we do know the styling takes cues from models such as the C-Type, D-Type, XJR-9, XJR-14 and blends them with “innovative future technology.”

There’s no exact word on when the 5,540-mm (218.11-inches) long electric endurance race car will become available inside the virtual world of the Gran Turismo game, but we do know it’s going to happen sometime next year.
