A British newspaper today reports that Jaguar Land Rover is lanning a major expansion of the Castle Bromwich Assembly Plant to build the sportscar brand’s new F-Type two-seater soft-top next year.
According to the Daily Telegraph, a total of £200 million have been earmarked for the new building grounds. The investment will boost capacity at the plant by 50 percent and create up to 1,000 jobs.
To put things into perspective, the factory that currently takes care of body stamping, paint, trim and final assembly for the XF, XJ and XK has 2,000 employees or a bit over. So JLR is really hoping the F-Type will be a huge hit for the company if they are hiring almost half as many workers.
The F-Type will be a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sportscar with a folding roof. It will be built around a shortened aluminum frame borrowed and adapted from the XK. The engine range will include everything from a four-cylinger, to a V6 and even a supercharged V8.
