At this year’s edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Indian-owned Jaguar Land Rover announced a new feature called justDrive. JLR heralds it as an app technology that integrates a number of smartphone apps into a single, voice-activated in-car experience.
The joint product of California-based CloudCar and Jaguar Land Rover’s R&D team, justDrive is compatible with Apple iPhone devices that run iOS8. It’s already available for download for iOS 8, but Android users will have to wait until early 2015 for it.
To make a long story short, the justDrive thinghy is a free app that will further enhance the InControl media system of current Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.
It integrates popular applications and services such as Spotify, Twitter, iHeartRadio and Yelp, apps that are meant to give Jaguar Land Rover drivers better integration with the navigation, media, social interaction, voice commands and information services while minimizing driver distraction too. Sounds funny, checking latest tweets while cruising down the motorway, but hey, technology is king these days.
“Using speech as a key enabler, together with justDrive’s simple and clean user interface, means we only show essential information to help create a safe, non-distracting driving environment,” the official added. “Using speech as a key enabler, together with justDrive’s simple and clean user interface, means we only show essential information to help create a safe, non-distracting driving environment.”

“While our aim is to significantly enhance the driving experience through unprecedented levels of connectivity, we also want to reduce driver distraction. So we have worked closely with the CloudCar team to ensure justDrive is ‘right for driving,” said Dr Wolfgang Epple, Director of Research and Technology at Jaguar Land Rover.“Using speech as a key enabler, together with justDrive’s simple and clean user interface, means we only show essential information to help create a safe, non-distracting driving environment,” the official added. “Using speech as a key enabler, together with justDrive’s simple and clean user interface, means we only show essential information to help create a safe, non-distracting driving environment.”
