Early next year, the 2012 Detroit Auto Show and the 2012 New Delhi Auto Show overlap, and a couple of years ago, this wouldn’t have bothered any serious automaker. But India is showing some serious growth potential, and it looks like Jaguar Land Rover wants to focus its efforts there in January.
“Since our newest concept vehicles were featured at the Frankfurt show and will be featured at the upcoming Los Angeles show, we decided to show them next in the Delhi Show in January as part of our effort to build our brands in this growing market. Therefore, without anything new to show in Detroit this year, we felt it most efficient to not participate in the show," has recently told Autoblog.
It’s rumored that Land Rover will bring a refreshed version of the newest DC100 concept that previews the Defender replacement to LA this month, and Jaguar is likely to show its mighty C-X16 concept that also debuted in Frankfurt there.
The decision to pick New Delhi over Detroit is justified, partly because Jaguar and Land Rover are owned by Tata, an Indian automaker, and partly because neither of those concept can be aimed at American consumers right now.
But with LA becoming larger than it’s ever been, the tradeoff isn’t that bad.
