Jaguar Land-Rover-Chery Joint Venture to Make Freelander-Based Small SUVs in China

Jaguar Land-Rover recently created a joint venture with Chinese automaker Chery, in order to create cars specifically for the Chinese market. Now, according to autocar.co.uk, the first materialization of this new joint-venture will be the creation of a series of small Freelander-based SUVs.

However, aside from the new small SUVs, the joint venture will also build a few of Jaguar and Land Rover’s own products, in China. They plan on building the actual Freelander range, as well as the Evoque will be built in the same factory as the joint-venture cars, despite the fact that the latter will be getting personalized design, badges and branding.

Rumor suggests that Jaguar may also build its new 3-Series rival in the new plant, which will be built in Changshu (160 km/100 miles west of Shanghai), from the first half of 2014.
