Jaguar Land Rover Backs Formula Student 2011

This year’s largest student motorsport event, which kicks off on July 14th at Silverstone, will be supported by British automotive business Jaguar Land Rover, the company announced today. The event in question is Formula Student, which challenges graduates from around the globe to design, build, and eventually race single-seat racing cars on track.

Participating students will be awarded in a host of categories designed to test the limits of their skills, including Sustainability, Cost Analysis and Best High Voltage Powertrain Implementation.

Jaguar Land Rover is contributing to the Formula Student event in a number of ways including the provision of judges, vehicle displays and sponsorship of two awards − 'Leading Edge' Design and Quality Award and the, Advanced Manufacturing for Weight Reduction Award. Also showcased will be the Land Rover mini Terapod, a mobile off-road course which will be available for use by members of the public over the weekend.

The company was the highest ranking automotive manufacturer in the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers index.

“The concept of the event and the talent of the students involved provide automotive companies such as Jaguar Land Rover with an invaluable opportunity to engage with individuals who have the potential to drive the future of our industry," said Jo Lopes, Head of Technical Excellence at Jaguar Land Rover.

"Given the scale of Jaguar Land Rover's investment in new products, attracting the best young talent is critical to our future success and I can think of no better place to do this than at Silverstone this week," he continued.
