Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is so proud of the Evoque’s success they are even bragging about the fact that they have to keep up with demand. Due to increased sales of the compact SUV in markets across the world, JLR has to spend an additional £1 billion (US$1.6 billion) with suppliers in the UK over the next four years.
The new amount stacks over the £2 billion (US$3.2 billion) awarded as contracts to 40 suppliers back in March of 2011. And all this for the assembly plant at Halewood on Merseyside.
To better coordinate their efforts, JLR have opened a new logistics facility in Ellesmere Port, UK. This will support production of the Evoque and the Freelander 2 and create 300 new jobs.
"Today's announcements demonstrate JLR's strong products and clear ambition for continued growth. The demand we have seen across the globe for the Range Rover Evoque means we are able to significantly increase what we spend with our suppliers, which is great news for the UK economy, and the thousands of jobs JLR supports in its supply chain," said Ralf Speth, CEO Jaguar Land Rover.
