These days, a crossover or an SUV can make wonders for a carmaker's income, we get that. But since so many manufacturers are doing it - especially those you wouldn't expect that from - more or less true stories are bound to surface.

Like the ones about a potential upcoming Jaguar J-Pace. If our memory is correct, some rumors were saying such a model will follow the F-Pace on the market in 2019. However, Jaguar responded to the speculation in a fervent way, claiming everything was nothing but fiction.

However, Car Magazine published a new report that picks up the pace (pun intened) and says the Jaguar J-Pace will happen in 2019. Moreover, the same source adds the SUV will be derived from the Range Rover facelift, thus bearing aluminum underpinnings.

The details

As the name suggests, the J-Pace will slot above the F-Pace in Jaguar's backyard and will be, simply put, the SUV version of the upcoming 2018 XJ, offered with two wheelbase length options.

A pack of V6 and V8's could be in charge of powering the money-making SUV, although some voices suggested Jaguar will add straight-six turbo units while ditching supercharged V6 plants. Also, be prepared to take a plug-in hybrid setup into consideration.

Despite the fact that another SUV from Jaguar besides the F-Pace might not totally make sense for some, consider that the niche where the J-Pace would fit offers plenty of fish in the sea. Translate that into rivals such as the BMW X7, Audi Q8 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS for that matter.
