Last time we talked about the Jaguar F-Type SVR, our spy photographers spotted a prototype doing its thing around the Nurburgring. We are now back on the topic to discuss how this F-Type derivative will serve as a Jaguar flagship, at least as a temporary one.
We’ll remind you the head of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division, John Edwards, has confirmed that an even hotter version of the F-Type is in the works. The title currently goes to the F-Type R Coupe, which packs 550 HP using the company’s infamous 5-liter supercharged V8.
Put those two pieces of info together and it makes sense to think about an F-Type with over 600 HP. As we mentioned in the spyshot article, this would make for the quickest road-going Jaguar in the history of the big cat brand.
The tweaking job is not as simple as playing with the supercharger pulley and the engine ECU. You see, the British engineers have already pushed the limits with the F-Type R, so they’ll have plenty of work to do until the SVR model is complete.
With such a title in its trophy cabinet, the F-Type SVR will probably serve as an interim flagship for the company. That title might just go to the fastest version of the XK replacement when this arrives.
Nevertheless, Jaguar is still far from having shown us its intentions for the future of the now-discontinued XK. The introduction of the F-Type will most likely mean an upmarket move for the Grand Tourer. Frankly, with the XK’s cramped cabin, this was exactly what the model needed.
