Jaguar’s new F-Type is a stunning car. It looks great, sounds great and drives terrific, keeping the back end out at nearly all times. But is it fast enough on the drag strip and could it take down a more powerful M6?
The F-Type R Coupe, the car we have here, comes as standard with a 5-liter supercharged V8 that makes 550 HP and 681 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque, all of them sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed ZF gearbox. Accelerating to 100 km/h (62 mph) should take around 4.2 seconds so yes, that’s a really fast car.

On the other hand, the M6 in stock guise would do 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds due to the extra 200 kilos it has to carry around. When it comes to what’s hiding under the bonnet, the M division fitted the Coupe with a 4.4-liter twinturbo engine making 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque also sent to the rear wheels but through a 7-speed DCT box.

However, in this particular case, the car was also fitted with a Stage 2 PP-Performance kit taking it to 720 HP. Could the extra 160 HP make up for the weight difference?
