Jaguar F-Pace is Likely to Receive a Full-Electric Version

Jaguar’s first SUV ever was only announced a couple of weeks ago, but that didn’t stop rumors from suggesting that we might be seeing an electric version of the F-Pace, ready to light up the battle against the upcoming Tesla Model X.

As we hear from Autocar, Jaguar is developing a fully electric model, “according to well-placed industry sources”. Since nothing has been confirmed or denied yet, some voices argue that the EV will be based on the upcoming F-Pace SUV.

The same sources indicate that we might be looking at a range of around 300 miles (480 km) and Jaguar Land Rover’s experience in this field is coming from the company’s work on the C-X75 hybrid supercar concept. Now, with a new Zero Emission Vehicle legislation being introduced in California and other seven US states ready to embrace it, Jaguar’s decision - if real - might turn out to be the correct one.

Why? Because such laws will force a 5% increase in EV sales between 2018 and 2025. In addition, automotive analysts are predicting a rise in demand for electric luxury vehicles.

So far, only Tesla managed to find a way through and speculate these opportunities, and its unexpected success is basically telling the whole story. You also need to know that Tesla sold somewhere around 32,000 vehicles in 2014, mostly in the United States.

Therefore, such a success and an increasing demand for luxury EVs may attract players like Jaguar in the same way nectar draws bees in the summertime, although we’re not too sure that Jaguar will use the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 502 HP mated to four electric motors as they did on the C-X75 prototype.
