The limited-edition Jaguar XKR-S GT production run could be extended if there’s enough demand for the V8-powered coupe, the British company announced. Originally slated to be built in just 30 units, the track-focused XKR-S GT production might gain another 20 examples.
“It is possible the production run will reach 50,” said Jaguar boss Adrian Hallmark said after the car’s unveiling at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. “The initial cap was set to define the business case but, thankfully, there is room for more.”

“The real beauty of this project has been that it has extended our understanding of the elements involved in making a car go so fast, and that will feed back into all our road car programmes,” Hallmark added.

The Jaguar XKR-S GT is powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 542 bhp. The British automaker claims that its performance coupe can lap the Nurburgring in less than 7 minutes and 40 seconds.

The 30 or 50 examples of the Jaguar XKR-S GT will be sold in US and Canada for the equivalent £130,000 ($199,000) each.
