Jaguar’s future is starting to take shape, slowly but surely, but the new base models to underpin the range that will turn the British brand from a relatively exclusive one to a BMW rival are still some years away, and it’s time to give the future lineup a second look.
Strangely enough, modes that we’ve been waiting on for a while, like the new compact sedan, will actually be preceded by the sportscar based on the C-X16 Concept that created such a stir at the Frankfurt Auto Show. According to AutoWeek, the two-door is almost ready for production, and could arrive as early as next year.
If this turn up to be true, it will land straight in the middle of a battle with what is to be its main rival, the new Porsche Boxter.
Of probably even greater importance is the revival of the small Jaguar sedan, which has been lost with the Ford Mondeo-based X-Type when it was rightfully dropped in 2008. This is still at least a couple of years away, and it will rival the BMW 3-Series with both V6 and four-cylinder engines.
