Jaguar is somehow reticent these days, probably due to all those financial problems we told you before but the company is still holding an ace up its sleeve. Jag is currently working on a so-called C-Type model that would bring the company back into the spotlights and place it where it belongs. According to a report by autoexpress.co.uk, the new model is going to compete with BMW Z4, Nissan 370Z and Audi TT, with pricing going in the same range: $65,000.
Citing inside sources, the aforementioned publication notes that C-Type will come in multiple engine configurations, including a 3.0-liter V6 developing 235 horsepower and a 5.0-liter version generating 380 horsepower, similar to those on the XF. Additionally, the manufacturer might also introduce a 3.0-liter diesel twin-turbo unit, with maximum output going as high as 272 hp. The engines will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddles.
Performance figures are obviously sketchy but the aforementioned source says the base six-cylinder engine would help the car sprint from 0 to sixty in approximately 7 seconds, with the V8 unit doing the same in less than 5 seconds.
The two-seat with make use of an aluminum body and chassis and a power canvas top which will reduce the overall weight of the car, thus improving performance and reducing fuel consumption.
As for the exterior styling, the car will sport a bold mesh grille and LED headlights which contribute to the overall aggressive look. Slim taillights, chrome exhausts and a more aerodynamic body are likely to come with the future C-Type.
