In an effort to be able to offer Indian customers the XF at lower prices, Jaguar has just announced the start of local production for the 5-Series-rivalling sedan. Thanks to lower taxes and the various benefits of local production of an automobile, Jaguar will be able to sell the XF at prices considerably lower than those of imports.
The plant which builds the XF is located in the city of Pune, in the western part of the country, and will make models equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, as well as the entry-level 2.2-liter diesel. The group also assembles the Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV, and has been doing so since its inauguration, in May of 2011.
Thanks to local production, the price of the three-lifer diesel version has been cut from 5.8 million rupees to around 5.1 million rupees, while the smaller diesel will cost from 4.5 million rupees, or $83,800.
This will enable Jaguar to better-handle the German competition, in the form of the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which are strong contenders with strong sales all across the world, India included.
