Jackie Stewart Urges Hamilton to Stay at McLaren

Triple world champion Jackie Stewart publicly advised McLaren's Lewis Hamilton not to leave the Woking based team in the wake of the lying saga. The Scottish driver insisted a rushed move from either Hamilton or his father – manager Anthony – could easily ruin the Brit's future inside the sport.

The reigning world champion is currently involved in what is now knows as the “lie-gate”, as he eluded the truth from the Australian Grand Prix stewards about the on-track incident between him and Toyota's Jarno Trulli. Talking about it ahead of the Malaysian race, Hamilton admitted his wrongdoing but insisted he was advised to take that position by McLaren's sporting director Dave Ryan.

Being that he was dragged in this whole scandal by the McLaren team, Hamilton was reportedly very close to quitting the Woking based team. Mercedes Benz motorsport director Norbert Haug himself admitted the British driver was very close to quitting – the sport or the team, he did not mention – after being called “a cheat”.

However, Stewart believes Hamilton should not rush into any drastic decision right now, especially since McLaren is very close to giving him a race winning car this season.

“Lewis and his father need to keep cool heads right now. If he goes elsewhere it could destroy his career, certainly put it in jeopardy. McLaren are not competitive right now but there is no reason why there could not be an immense improvement in the next two or three races,” said Stewart, as reported by GMM news agency.

According to media reports in the UK, Anthony Hamilton is considering looking for another team for his son. Brawn GP and Ferrari were the names most commonly circulated through the media, but a move abroad to the North American racing series is also to be taken into consideration, as revealed by an “authoritative source”.
