The new ND generation of the Mazda Miata has generated a monstrous buzz not just thanks to the car itself, but also over the tons of customization possibilities the new platform offers.
Mazda engineers went back to the drawing board for this one, with the inner workings of the fourth-gen MX-5 being just as fresh as its body panels. The custom possibilities opened by this pathway haven't failed to show up, with Mazda itself introducing a pair of wicked ND-based concepts at last year's SEMA show.

The tuning market has obviously started working on ND goodies, but we still haven't seen any extreme incarnations of the sportscar - no, Mad Mike Whiddett's 1,200 hp Miata drift car doesn't count, since that's an NC model with ND body panels.

However, the rendering above is here to change all that, bringing us a jacked-up incarnation that does away with the diminutive aura of the Mazda sportscar.

Coming from digital artist Kalim Design, this MX-5 packs all the good stuff you'd expect to see with such an offroading conversion. From the suspension lift kit and the beadlock wheels with rugged terrain tires to the protection elements and the pair of spare wheels strapped to the back of the car, everything is where it should be. Oh, and let's not forget that light bar up front - anybody whose done serious offroading knows the importance of such a small feature.

In case all this seems like internet madness with no real life relevance to you, we'll remind you such a kit has already been developed, albeit for NA and NB Miatas.

While cost-related matters mean older MX-5s are much more suitable for such a conversion, we wouldn't be all that surprised to see a heavy-duty ND taking part in next year's Gumball Rally, for instance. We can already feel the dirt...
