The IXS Tarmac, as the boots are named, have an OutDry membrane making them waterproof and breathable, thus increasing comfort on long trips. Unlike other solutions on the market, the OutDry membrane is thermal-bonded to the inner side of the boot. This means there are no seams and no empty spaces in between that can collect water and weight you down.
The outer shell is made of full-grain Nappa leather while the insulation is textile and has a comfortable foot bed. Access is done through a zipper with Gusset and Velcro fastener on the inner side of each foot. In addition, flex zones have been integrated at the front and back joint for enhanced movability.
Protection wise, the Tarmac comes with plastic inlays on ankle and shin section, reinforced heel cap, TPR knuckle protector on the outer side, gear lever protection made of rubber and an abrasion-proof, non-slip rubber sole. All features are in accordance with EN 12634.
At $219 MSRP in the US, the IXS Tarmac boots aren’t cheap nor way too expensive, being placed in the middle of the range. For comparison, similar products using Gore-Tex technology usually go past the $300 mark.
