An old and revered name in the European bike-making scene, ItalJet had a tumultuous history, with bankruptcy not missing from the list. However, the company was revived in 2005 and is since manufacturing some really cool electric bicycles, e-scooters and even some gas-powered mini motorcycles. With the Mantra project however, it looks like ItalJet is ready to take a step on the electric motorcycle side, as well. And since this business has a solid potential, we might be looking at a brighter future for the company founded by Leopoldo Tartarini.
All two-wheelers bearing the ItalJet badge ooze retro design and killer steampunk accents and this makes the company one of the few which is mass-producing such machines. All the models have a most powerful custom look air about them, and this makes them all the more coveted.
The Mantra is their latest project, a model which exudes retro vibe. Harking back to the bike between the two world wars, the ItalJet Mantra has a strong appeal for the modern riders, as well. Since retro motorcycles are hard to believe to ever become outfashioned, we’re positive the Mantra will find enough customers, if the price will not be prohibitive.
With a lot of leather work arriving from Brooks, the ItalJet Mantra is a looker, while the black trim, springer fork and bobber-esque tires add to the overall exquisite attire. A fashion statement of the a most refined taste and a highly functional, green and cheap-to-run commuting solution, ItalJet’s Mantra will quietly turn heads wherever it will make appearance.
Unfortunately, ItalJet is not yet eager to tell us whether and when will we be able to take a test ride aboard this somehow intriguing blast-from-the-past bike. Riding it may look a bit uncomfortable at first sight, as the flat trackers have never been famous for ergonomics. Still, the dual piggyback suspension in the rear is sure to make the thin leather seat much comfier than expected.
We’ll be watching it to bring you more info on tech specs and maybe, availability. All we know so far is that the ItalJet Mantra can do 24 km/h (15 mph) and its juice pack provides the 250W motor with energy for some 50 km (31 miles) or so. Stay tuned and pray ItalJet makes it real!
