In case you thought high-end, luxury goods are just for the grown ups it’s time for a bit of rethinking. They make everything from expensive electric toy cars, to motorsport gear for your kid and even children jewelry. Some even say that the kids products industry is bigger than the one for adults. It’s no wonder then that a spaceship themed bed that instantly sends the mini-you into space every night costs new car money. But is it worth it?
It’s called the Deepspace Defender and it’s a handmade bed that “instantly turns your little astronaut’s bedroom into Ground Control for the coolest extraterrestrial adventures on the block.” Yeah, we’ve heard all that marketing gibberish before, but honestly more than 14k for a bed? Are you people loco?

Let us not go head over heels yet and give them a chance.

The bed was designed in a way that it allows the mattress to be raised, creating extra space during the day. Moreover, its creators claim the space bed was specially built to offer a maximum of safety through a one-hand operation mechanism. Special features include paper-thin electroluminescent light panels, while the handcrafted sleeping machine uses low-VOC and VOC-paint blended to a unique finish, and extra shelving storage in the engine pods that flank the mattress.

Innovative tower “engine pod” design with 5 shelves each for plenty of storage, custom thermofarmed domes and canopy are all details that are supposed to make it worth.

Yet, it just won't do for us. I mean, put it this way, with a little help from their friends I’m pretty sure any pair of parents would manage to build a much better one for half the price if not even less. Think of that dad that built a Volkswagen bus bed for his 3-year old daughter for instance.
