Launched in October 2019, the third generation of the Isuzu D-Max is the best one yet. The half-sibling of the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck can be had in three body styles, starting with a two-door single cab and topping with four-door extended and double cabs.
A fourth body style is now available in the United Kingdom in the guise of the D-Max Tipper, which is joined by two more versions called GO2 and XTR Colour Edition. The latter variants are both double cabs, and they couldn’t be more different in their purpose.

But first, let’s talk about the tipper. Based on the D-Max Utility Extended Cab, this fellow comes with a Tippadeck bed made from 18-millimeter interlocking alloy panels for the floor and 300-millimeter high sideboards. Measuring 1,977 by 1,800 millimeters, the truck bed can be lifted at the simple touch of a button by an electro-hydraulic system.

The D-Max XTR Colour Edition couldn’t be more different. Not only does it feature the standard bed, but this version of the mid-size pickup was developed “for off-road enthusiasts and drivers who want a vehicle to complement their lifestyle.” The body kit is coated in a black finish that Isuzu calls Raptor, Pedders bespoke suspension comes standard with 250 mils ground clearance, and the 17-inch alloys naturally sport A/T tires.

But as far as off-roading is concerned, you can GO2 places other D-Max models can’t reach with the D-Max GO2. Described as an extreme off-roader, the one-off truck features Pedders TrakRyder eXtreme suspension with two front adjustable coilovers and two rear leaf springs combined with adjustable shock absorbers. A snorkel is also included, relocating the air intake point from under the hood to above the roof to increase the workhorse’s wading depth. Oh, and did we mention it flaunts 33-inch M/T rubber boots?

“This is a fantastic working example of just how easily the Isuzu D-Max can be adapted and transformed into a do-anything, go-anywhere pickup,” said group resources director Darren James, “and should definitely give our customers some inspiration for what they can achieve in their own D-Max.”
