On the heels of launching the P1 and the 650S, McLaren is undoubtedly hard at work preparing its next model, the P13, for its time in the spotlight. The British automaker has already stated that it plans to introduce its all-new 911-fighting, entry-level supercar car next year, and while details are nonexistent to this point, a recent video may have given us our first sneak peek at the new model.
In a video posted on the McLaren website, one of the automaker’s clay modelers is shown carving clay off a full-scale model. The fact that the full clay mockup is never shown makes the video mysterious enough, but the screen shot above seems to show a rear fender line that is not present on any current McLaren model nor the previous MP4-12C. There’s really no telling what car this could be, which is deepened even further by the modeler stating that he could go through three or four different designs in a single day.

Based on the fact that the P1 was revealed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and the 650S was revealed earlier this year at the same auto show, we’re guessing that we’ll see the P13 – or whatever it ends up being named – at next year’s Geneva show. With that timeline, this video would be an excellent way to give us a brief tease of the new design without revealing too much.

Head on over to the McLaren website to have a look for yourself, and if nothing else, it’s always fun to watch automakers working on clay models. With all of the fancy digital technology out there with which automakers now dream up their future cars, it’s nice to see that there is still a place in the automotive design world for full-scale clay models.
