Is the Ford Mach-E Worthy of the Mustang Name? Review Looks for an Answer

Let's face it, ever since the Ford Mustang Mach-E became a thing, there were only two ways in which people referred to it, and they both took the shape of a question.

The first inquired whether it will be better than the Tesla Model Y, its biggest rival so far (at least before the Volkswagen ID.4 arrives). One can answer that with another question - "what does better mean?" Does it have a longer range? No. Does it have better performance? No. Does it offer more room and overall practicality? No. Is it far behind in any of these areas? No.

Is it better looking? Completely subjective, but most neutral people will agree it is. Does it have better build quality? It's too early to tell, but at first glance, it seems like it does. Is it more instantly familiar to anyone who hasn't driven a Tesla before? Yes.

The second question surrounding the Mustang Mach-E asks whether Ford's first purpose-built EV is worthy of the Mustang name. We all know why Ford did it but was it a little too much? Is the company playing with the patience of its most hardcore followers by associating their beloved moniker with what most of them must consider being the devil: electric propulsion?

Finding an answer to that is a lot trickier than going with your first instinct and saying it most definitely isn't.

However, neither of these two questions is the one you should be asking. The only one that matters is this: is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car? And, as it turns out, the answer to that is a strong "yes".

As Throttle House's James and Thomas find out for themselves, there are very few ways in which you can fault the Mach-E. While it doesn't necessarily excel at anything, it's just a very good all-rounder, even if you ignore the fact it's battery-powered.

Scratch that, the Mustang Mach-E does excel at something, and if you enjoy driving, it's a pretty important aspect. We're talking about its ability to hide the fact it's a crossover and handle not quite like a sports car, but at least like a very good car. It may not sound like much, but it's more than what you can say about a lot of other crossovers out there, electric or otherwise. Plus, it's got a cooler in the frunk that's guaranteed to make you the odd one out at the next tailgate party.

Watch the clip below for James and Thomas' enthusiastic review.
