As the coveted summer vacation draws ever nearer, the typical American household is making last minute preparations for the most perfect family experience yet. And that made us beg the question “What is the best suited vehicle for the job?” A spacious station wagon? A rough-and-ready SUV? A sleek premium sedan? Why not something that offers a bit of everything without the specific drawbacks of the previously mentioned automotive body styles?
The first candidate that came to mind is the Chevrolet Suburban. In case you were wondering, the 2015 model year model marks the 80th anniversary and 12th generation of the original full-size SUV, which was built from 1933 to 1934. Being a large sport utility vehicle, the Suburban comes with lots of space, a cavernous boot and just enough comfort features to keep every family member happy. Literally everyone if you take into consideration that the cabin can seat up to 9 passengers.

So what do you exactly get if you spend $47,595 on the least expensive variant of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban? In spite of the $1,000+ increase over the 2014 model year, the new Suburban LS comes packed full of standard goodies such as a rearview backup camera, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone users. A 5.3-liter V8 mill with 355 horsepower on tap is the entry-level engine option. The powerplant generates 383 pounds feet of torque, which translates to enough towing capability to hitch a boat trailer or a small motorhome. Based on EPA estimates, this EcoTec3 V8 returns a respectable 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, which is pretty good fuel economy considering the curb weight of the miniature M4 Sherman tank.

Families that need to haul bigger seasonal toys will be happy to know that the Suburban’s maximum trailering package offers the capability to tow a whopping 8,300 pounds. On the family entertainment front, Chevrolet offers individual entertainment via wireless headphones, overhead screens, a Blu-Ray compatible media player and devices that can sync with the MyLink system through Bluetooth. OnStar 4G LTE is also available, providing Internet connectivity via Wi-Fi hotspot for the entire family’s smartphones, tablets and even gaming consoles. All devices can be charged thanks to no less than 12 available power outlets.

Need a further reason why the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban is the jack of all trades and an unsung hero of family hauling business? Take the maximum 121.1 cubic feet of cargo space available if you fold down the second and third row of seats. If the traveling party is larger than just two, the ample seating configurations offer plenty of choice suited to various family needs.

On the safety front, the Suburban can be fitted with state-of-the-art safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Automatic Braking, Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Anyway you look at it, the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban has all the right stuff the modern American family needs on the long haul.
