Damn straight he is! How many dads out there actually kept their promise to show the kids how to do a burnout? Props to Mr. Hennessey for taking his two sons to the dragstrip and getting them acquainted with the little niggles that are key to smoking the rear tires like a pro.
For those of you that aren't familiar to Mr. Hennessey, John is the key figure behind Hennessey Performance Engineering, the infamous Texan tuning house specialized in creating over-steroidized vehicles that vary from Cherokees to McLarens. Thus, burning rubber is a kind of second nature to him.

So what ride did he use to show his kids how to do a big smoky one? A 2013 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon is the answer, but it's not a bone stock model. Fitted with the HPE750 Performance Package, this supercharged 6.2-liter V8-powered family hauler lays down 650 horsepower to the rear wheels. How cool would it be if you were a kid and your dad would take you to school in a ride like this? Yup, pretty cool.

After John puts the edge of the rear tires on a wet piece of tarmac, not all the way in the water box for all the obvious reasons, he explains to Cole and JP that for doing a burnout, they need to turn the traction control off, put the left foot on the brake and set the automatic transmission into manual. Then he explains how doing the burnout in 2nd gear is better because it gives more wheel speed, traction and ultimately puts more heat into the tires.

After holding it at around 5,500 - 6,000 rpm for a few good seconds, the burnout was done and John backed up to the starting line, put the gearbox back in auto, and prepared to do a quarter mile run. Because this CTS-V Wagon HPE750 packs so much torque, the Caddy's electronic brain selects 2nd gear when getting off the line to protect the tranny and minimize the wheelspin you get in 1st gear.

If you watch the video below all the way to the end, you'll be surprised to hear that John Hennessey's daily driver is a 600 horsepower Chevrolet SS, which is probably the ultimate sleeper vehicle in production these day. Further more, Mr. H. will return with a video depicting his son Cole doing a burnout in the Chevy SS as soon as possible.
