Chrysler Group, one of Detroit’s Big Three automakers, could leave Motown for Tennessee. Although it may sound shocking to some, this may very well happen as state officials are reportedly lobbying for Fiat chief Sergio Marchionne to select Tennessee for the company’s new joint headquarters with Chrysler.
According to Detroit News, quoting Associated Press, Marchionne met with Tennessee governor Bill Haslam in Pulaski, claiming that state officials have been “working me over pretty well” as he left. While there’s no official word on a possible Chrysler headquarters relocation, the report says Haslam could be pushing for the company’s main office to be moved in Tennessee.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO of both Fiat and Chrysler, said the merger could be complete by the middle of next year as the Italian giant is looking to borrow $10 billion to buy the remaining stake of the Chrysler Group.
Chrysler Group LLC, now a subsidiary of Fiat SpA, is based in Auburn Hills, Michigan since 1925. The city of Detroit is also home to Chrysler’s main American rivals, Ford and General Motors.
