Famed Italian coachbuilder Bertone is reportedly close to filing for bankruptcy after asking for court administration earlier this month.
The news comes via Italian paper La Republicca, who says that Bertone furloughed 165 of its employees and dismissed 10 interns while looking for an investor to save them from bankruptcy.
According to the same report, an unnamed Turkish company is interested in buying the Torino-based manufacturer for $2.7 million. Bertone has 120 days to find a new owner and save itself from falling under.
Bertone was founded in 1912 and has designed some of the most beautiful and intriguing automobiles ever built, including the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint, the BMW 3200 CS, Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, Lamborghini Miura, Lamborghini Countach, Lancia Stratos and many more.
The most recent vehicle penned by Bertone is the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide Jet 2+2, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
