Irvine Says Schumacher Was An Idiot in Hungary

Eddie Irvine might not have plenty of things to do with Formula One racing nowadays, but when it comes to speaking his mind about certain things that occur in the series in current times, he doesn't hold back. And Michael Schumacher's maneuver over Rubens Barrichello in the Hungarian Grand Prix could not have gone unnoticed by the Irishman.

When fighting to retain his 10th place in the Hungarian race, Schumacher almost pushed the Brazilian driver from Williams into the wall on the start/finish line. Luckily enough, Barrichello managed to escape unharmed, while also overtaking Schumacher on the interior. Later on, the FIA stewards handed the German driver a 10-place grid penalty for the upcoming race.

Irvine, a former teammate of Schumacher at Ferrari, labelled the move as being “idiotic” and argued the German should have been banned from the next race, at Spa.

He was an idiot. It was an idiotic maneuver that was extremely dangerous. It was incredible. He wasn't thinking and it was just pure arrogance that he thought he could just drive another driver into the pit wall,” said Irvine during an appearance on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, as reported by crash.net.

He got punished, but I don't think he got punished enough. He should have got a one race ban because it was one of the worst maneuvers I've ever seen.”

He's always done stuff like this and has intimidated people for a long time, but he got away with it because he was Michael Schumacher. He was 'the' Michael Schumacher, but this Michael Schumacher isn't getting away with it,” concluded the 44-year old Irishman.
