The U-Turn section of autoevolution has seen its fair share of crazy stuff. This story is no exception, and we cannot find any reasonable explanation for it.
A driver that was engaged in traffic on the Interstate 76, near Philadelphia, spotted a man that was riding a pedal-powered trike. This kind of vehicle is usually given to children to ride before they learn to balance themselves enough to use a bicycle.
You might call it a Big Wheel, as Jalopnik and the person who filmed the original clip did, but the item has recently gained popularity among adults because it could be modified for drifting.
Some companies have specially developed vehicles like these, which even have polyurethane wheels to ensure they will lose grip faster and provide riders with the unmatched feeling of a controlled slide, but at speeds slow enough not to endanger their lives. Evidently, this applied as long as they were not operating the trikes downhill, or on a highway.
In the case of this unidentified mad that thought it would be an excellent idea to ride a pedal-powered trike on the interstate, we cannot understand what he was thinking.
Upon further determination in our newsroom, we are not sure there was any thinking involved in this action, but something along the lines of “hold my beer and watch this” that has gone too far.
There is a reason why traffic laws exist, and obeying them should ensure that you do not get killed on the road, and that you do not cause the death of others.
Evidently, there is an inherent risk of death or serious injury every time you get in a vehicle, but this dramatically increases the odds of dying if you ride a pedal-powered trike on the interstate.
It goes to say that it is insanely irresponsible to ride an object like this on the highway, as you could quickly become a hood ornament for a semi or even an SUV.
The worst part about the Darwin-Awards-eligible incident would be that some poor driver that did not see the pedal-powered creation would live the rest of their life with nightmares caused by the traumatic accident.
