Irmscher Insignia is3 ‘Bandit’ Has 370 HP

We’re terribly used to seeing premium German cars being tuned into oblivion every week. As a matter of fact, they have become so popular that some people even take into consideration the tuning prowess of a model when purchasing a new car and that says a lot.

BMWs, Audis and Mercedes’ all have their in-house tuners that are able to offer you incredible amounts of performance for even more ridiculous amounts of money. The best bit? You are also covered under warranty in case something happens to your car. We’re not all that used to seeing Opels tuned, though.

The guys from Irmscher have a different view on things and they just unveiled their Insignia is3 ‘Bandit’ model, a car that has some serious grunt under the bonnet.

In case you never heard of Irmscher, you should know that they are close to the only tuner interested in tuning Opels, having done so for nearly 50 years. So far, they have tuned over 500,000 cars, if we’re to believe their claims, and that’s an impressive number.

The Opel Insignia ST they worked on received their full attention as it was presented at the IAA 2015. The front end has a new front apron with a special splitter included in the mix, for better looks and aerodynamics.

Moving towards the back you’ll notice the side skirts and rear diffuser hooked up to the bumper. Other visual changes include the decals installed on the body of the car and, of course, the 20-inch Irmscher Turbo Star Exclusive that also sport a golden accent.

But all of that fades when you learn about what happened to the engine. The 2.8-liter V6 had its turbocharger replaced along with the intake and the cooling system and is now good for 370 HP instead of 325 in stock guise. The torque also went up from 435 Nm (321 lb-ft) to 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) and that’s an even bigger increase.

These new figures allow the car to accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds which is 0.4 seconds faster than before. That’s a bigger improvement than what we expected.

For now, this package isn’t on sale but it should be available by the end of the year. No price was provided by the tuner.
