IRIS Helmets Wants To Provide All In One Recording

Riding a motorcycle poses a greater risk, and part of that comes from other road users. That's why more and more riders choose to put a camera on their helmet to act as liability protection. However, this practice is uncomfortable and not practical for everyday use, reason why IRIS Helmets wants to bring you the first lid with integrated cameras and microphones.

Although some other company failed miserably in providing motorcyclists a top helmet, Brisbane-based company IRIS Helmets have started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of a new lid that comes with an interesting recording system.

The DC-2, as it is named, is said to be a fully ECE and DOT certified helmet when ready and provide integrated front and back cameras as well as multiple microphones to record your rides.

“Our helmet is designed for the rider seeking safety and protection in the case of an accident,” the company explains. “Recording in real-time for every part of your journey, the DC-2 always has your back. Vision and protection are effortlessly integrated for a new level of safety.”

The IRIS DC-2 is fitted with dual 1080p cameras recording at 30 fps both ahead and behind, providing a 135-degree field of view each. The high definition footage allows for identification of number plates, faces, and other details, while the hardware has been engineered not to compromise the structural integrity of the helmet.

The cameras also offer image stabilization and low-light optimized recording so you can use it at night too.

Moreover, the helmet will be equipped with two microphones to capture both the rider's voice and the surrounding environment. The inner mic is shielded from wind and engine noise, making it great for recording comments or daily vlogs if you're a motovlogger.

But probably the best part is the fact that the system is said to have such a low power consumption that the battery can last all day long. Which means you'll only need to be worrying is how much micro SD cards you can take with you.

Other than the special recording setup, the DC-2 will offer the same comfort as any premium helmet on the market, coming with air vents, lightweight components, and durable sweat-wicking lining.
