Iridescent Porsche Boxster Stops for Gas in Miami, Splits Opinions

We are now almost two decades away from the moment when Porsche decided to rock the mid-engined boat by introducing the Boxster. One of the consequences of the open-air Zuffenhausen story is that enthusiasts on a tight budget can now afford one.

However, while these cars might come with the premium feel, age is still age, so you'll need to do something that will allow your ride to be up to date.

Certain owners go for subtle retouches that make the Boxster feel young again, but the gentleman who owns the car in the image above certainly isn't a member of this respectful club.

In fact, we are talking about one of the Porsche owners that chose quite the opposite. Throwing away the understated aura the factory introduces in any Porsche, this man went for a full respray. An iridescent respray, that is - we have to mention that, while this looks like a respray, it could just as well be a Plastidip job (the quality on these second skins has reached impressive levels nowadays).

The car was spotted while having lunch over in Miami by Redditor tussilladra and we have to admit it fits the location just as well as a stock Lamborghini Countach did back in the 80s. As you can imagine, this is quite an opinion splitter, especially since the chameleon theme is repeated on the wheels.

What about the financial side of this Porsche story - can I buy one of these and skip the cheesy color?

Of course you can. Reasonable examples of the first-generation Porsche Boxster range between $7,000 and $20,000. Sure, you'll also find cheaper cars, but paying $5k for something with a Porsche badge usually turns your motoring life into a nightmare, one of the worst kind (yes, the 914 is an exception, but that's not 100% Porsche, remember?).
