Iran Unveils Karrar UAV

With the eyes of the world pinned on what is happening in Iran, the country's military brought the level of tension to new levels after unveiling on Sunday the first ever Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) manufactured in Iran.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as well as a great number of military officials. The unveiling of the drone is the result of the announcement made by the Iranian government earlier this year about the setup of a production line for two types of drones with bombing and reconnaissance capabilities.

According to Press TV, the Karrar UAV has been built to transport and deliver a payload of rockets against ground targets located within an undisclosed range. The speed of the aircraft, dubbed by the Iranian media “a very high speed” is also being kept a secret.

There will be two types of drones manufactured in Iran, namely Ra'd (Thunder) and Nazir (Harbinger). Both are said to be capable of long-range reconnaissance, patrolling, assault and precision bombing missions.

“If an evil force decides to launch an attack on Iran out of ignorance, we will have to thwart their aggression even before they succeed to hit their targets,”
president Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by Press TV.

“Iran's military clout should enable it to become a defense shield for all the oppressed nations,” he added.

Separately, Iran began fueling its first nuclear reactor in a move called by Israel "totally unacceptable." So far however, no official reaction to the unveiling of the combat drones have been made public.
