For all the people out there that purchased an iPhone 5 and cannot use the iPhone 4S cradle that comes as an option from BMW, a forum user created a DIY to fix this problem. Of course, an official iPhone 5 cradle will be released in the following months and you can wait for it, but for those that are impatient, just follow the steps below.
Step 1: Get all the needed items at hand. Here's what you'll need:
1. Base plate of the Cradle (blanking plate)
2. Original Apple USB to Lightning cable
3. Filing tools
4. Hot Glue
5. Drilling tool (you can use a small, long drill bit, a size 6 is enough)
and of course some spare time.
Step 2: Remove the blanking plate from the console. In order to do that just press the top and pull from the bottom
Step 3: Drill a whole in the middle of the bottom of the plate of the cradle and fit the USB cable after covering it in hot glue. Make sure the whole isn't too wide, in order to have some resistance for the USB cable.
Step 4: Wait for the glue to stick and put the whole thing back into the console.
Step 5: Connect the USB cable tot the USB port of the car.
