Invicta concept previews Global Buick Design

Another fruit of the collaboration between an American and a Chinese design center in born, as GM's centers of expertize from Warren, Michigan and Shanghai, China just finished wrapping a concept for Buick, called Invicta.

 The new Buick Invicta Concept, recently presented at the China Auto Show comes according to GM officials  as an  anticipation of a future  global sedan  with coupe looks that will soon be launched on the American and Asian market.

Measuring 4.9 meters in length, 1,47 in height  and with a wheelbase  of 2.9 meters, the new Buick concept is inspired by previous design studies of the US manufacturer such as the Riviera Concept presented in 2007.Some design aspect are similar to the Opel Insignia, Buick's Gm cousin.  The powerplant is also new for Buick, as this is the first direct injection turbocharged engine, a four cylinder capable of 250 horsepower and 298 Nm of torque, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission for maximum fuel efficiency. The future Invicta series model is expected to replace the current LaCrosse towards the end of this year, or in the beginning of 2009.

The original Invicta was a full size automobile produced by Buick between 1959 and 1963. The name comes from Latin and translates as  "unconquerable, invincible or unbeatable". The first Invicta series were manufactured in different body styles including a two door coupe, a convertible, sedan and station wagon.
