Formula One, like most forms of professional forms of motorsport is slowly shifting towards being more green. It is a natural phenomenon which is affecting all types of racing, industry and everything in between. One way officials decided to make F1 greener is the introduction of a rule to force cars to run on electricity alone, while driving through the pit lane.
The FIA has announced officially that by 2014, "the car must be run in electric mode (no ignition and no fuel supply to the engine) at all times when being driven in the pitlane,” yet the engine manufacturers, Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari have all reportedly written in to convince the governing body of motorsport to postpone the introduction of the rule. They argued that the costs involved were too high, and that the lack of engine noise in the pit lane could pose problems for crew members who would be unaware of an approaching car - this last argument, though, could be corrected with ease, and it is not really an issue.

Now, the FIA president, Jean Totd said that he has accepted to postpone the introduction of the rule, for at least three years: "I have accepted to delay it. It has to go through the World Council, but it will be delayed for around three years."
