Infiniti’s QX30 Concept Is Bringing Sexy Back in Geneva

Infiniti played on two fronts and released official photos of the QX30 Concept right before the crossover’s debut in Geneva, but we like to operate on the ‘see it to believe it’ principle. So we joined the prototype at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and the pictures don’t lie: it’s a beauty.

After a closer look, QX30 concept’s shapes become so eye-pleasing that we’re willing to ignore the fact that we’re actually looking at a Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class in Japanese Clothing and agree with Infiniti: it does look both strong and stylish.

The resemblance with the GLA-Class is inevitable as the Infiniti QX30 is based on the MFA platform that also underpins the Q30 premium compact hatch and its cousin from Stuttgart, the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz GLA.

We’re a bit sad that the sculpted but somehow fluid body of the QX30 prototype won’t be kept as such on the production model but we are encouraged by the simple and modern interior which shows a lot of class and smoothness in terms of shapes.

Speculation about the concept is also pointed at the engine department, where it is believed that Mercedes will put its 2.0-liter turbo petrol unit as well as the 2.1-liter diesel unit, along with other options.

The production model will have a difficult task as the German trio made of Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3 is looking stronger than ever in the premium crossover niche. But there’s hope for a future QX30, especially if Infiniti gets its pricing right.

As you’re reading this, Infiniti announced that it officially revealed the QX30 concept at a pre-Geneva Motor Show event so we’ll have more information on the concept after the press conference due to be held today. Stay tuned!
