Introduced in 2013 for the model year 2014, the Infiniti Q50 is now heading into the MY 2017 at the Paris Motor Show. The descendant of the long-running G-Series is the same sexy sedan as we’ve always known, except for a handful of new bits and bobs.
For European models, the 2017 Infiniti Q50 adds a feature that goes by the name of Telematic Control Unit. The gizmo is designed to allow the driver to control the car and its functions via a smartphone app called Infiniti InTouch Services. Unfortunately no, no remote driving. But on the upside, the engine can be started remotely, the car can be tracked via GPS, and the list goes on.
Priced from $33,950 in the United States and from €37,000 in Germany, the 2017 Infiniti Q50 “has been further developed to offer buyers a higher level of personalization and driving engagement.” What the Hong Kong-based brand is saying is that new exterior colors were added. These are Midnight Black, Pure White, and Dynamic Sunstone Red. The latter replaces Venetian Red.
Also new for MY 2017 is the Designer Pack, which beautifies the cabin with open-pore dark wood veneer, dark chrome trim, black roof lining, as well as quilted semi-aniline leather cabin upholstery available in two colors. A Bose Performance Series sound system is also available, 16 speakers and fully-immersive audio experience included. Last, but certainly not least, the new model year brings red brake calipers to the Q50 Red Sport 400 performance model, which is gifted with a 400 horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
In the face of rivals such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Q50 is doing pretty well as far as sales are concerned. From January to August 2016, the Japanese automaker moved 144,675 examples of the Q50, translating to a six percent hike in sales compared to the same period in the calendar year 2015. Be that as it may, the Q50 still has a lot of catching up to do to properly duke it out with the big boys in the segment.
