Although usually devoid of any major events in most fields of human activity, January is a very busy month for the players in the automotive industry as auto shows, racing rallies, circuit races and various other events are abundant.
The highlight of the month will be the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), commonly known as the Detroit Auto Show. Coincidentally, It will be the last time NAIAS takes place in January, as from 2020 the show will move to June.

With that in mind, carmakers have prepared great surprises for next year's show, with several highly anticipated car models, like the Toyota Supra, lining up to be unveiled.

On Friday, Infiniti announced it too has a surprise for the show: the company’s first fully-electric crossover. With it will come a new design language for electrified car models, one that will govern all of Infiniti’s electric car portfolio from 2021 onwards.

Not many details about the car were made available, apart from the fact it will come with new exterior proportions, redefined interior space and a host of assistive technologies.

Design-wise, it is to be expected the car will borrow a line or two from two other concepts Infiniti has displayed for the first time this year, the Q Inspiration and Prototype 10. These lines will combine in the new crossover to create “the clearest vision yet of the future of Infiniti in an era of electrified design."

"The concept car we will show in Detroit is the beginning of a new era for INFINITI, and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand. Electrification and other new technologies have given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy," said in a statement Karim Habib, Infiniti’s new design chief.

Expect more details on the new Infiniti crossover in the coming weeks.
