Infiniti's Q50 Super-Sedan Gets an Engine for Geneva. Listen to Its First Roar!

If you're crazy about performance sedans like we are, you'll know Infiniti is working on a biggie. Back in January, Nissan's division pulled the covers off this car, the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept, celebrating Red Bull's success in Formula One. At the time, Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti, said the following: "If we built this car I would expect it to feature over 500hp and 600lb-ft of torque."

Wow, right?! Those kinds of numbers really spark your imagination. Will it be a V6 or a V8? Will it sound like the M3's new six-banger or the brutal old C63 AMG?

The answers are coming, as an engine has been placed under the concept's bonnet, which is now headed for another debut, this time in Geneva. A teaser video, which we reccommend, has also been posted. To our ears, the sound in the video belongs to a V6, similar to the one in the FX. But how is a 3.7-liter normally making a maximum of 350 hp in the 370Z Nismo jump 150 hp, not to mention levels of torque you only see with AMG models?

The company declined to provide any details but confirmed the "almighty powertrain" in the M4 killer has forced induction and "a big personality". Hybridization, twin turbos and twin-charging are all an option at this moment. Looks like we're in for a short waiting game.

“With its Formula One-inspired carbon fiber bodywork, we thought it only fitting the Q50 Eau Rouge’s beating heart was suitably sporting. Our engineers have perfectly captured the tone of Infiniti’s take on premium performance, and a car that is as impressive as the Q50 Eau Rouge sounds is surely a car to challenge performance cars in the premium sector,” said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited.
