The G37 was a moderately successful car for Infiniti, and now, with the all-new Q50 sedan, the premium Japanese automaker is planning to make an even bigger mark. The Q50, which is set to go up against the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Cadillac ATS and all-new Lexus IS, has just been leaked onto the web, so we can have a look at it prior to its Detroit Auto Show reveal.
It features a clean and classic sedan shape, with some bolt creases, but not too many, and too us, it just doesn`t look different enough, and it’s a bit bland to look at. There is no questioning the car’s excellent proportions, and very good stance, but the exterior just lacks originality, and it looks like any other small, exclusive Japanese saloon.
The interior design goes along the same lines, being very traditional in its layout and appearance, and while this is a positive trait for some, most customers will want a more modern dash design, like the one in the Lexus IS, which looks 10 years newer than the one in the Q50.
No word yet on engines, but if Infiniti want to actually make a mark in Europe, then they need a competent diesel engine. The car will probably get the Renault-sourced 3.0-liter unit, but a smaller one is also required, for the car to appeal to company car buyers, who have most likely avoided it up until now.
