Being based on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Q30's engine range features a predictable mix of technologies and displacement. The first is a 1.6-liter gasoline burner you may also know from the C-Class. It's going to be available in two stages of tune, a 122 PS base model and a 156 PS one (same as the C180).

Want something smaller and more frugal? The Q30 will also be available with the 1.5-liter diesel engine from the Nissan brand. You may also find its 109 PS output familiar from the Dacia Duster and many Renault models. We didn't expect The new hatchback to come with smaller engines, but it's a logical choice.

Larger turbo mills with more power will also be available, the same ones available on the A-Class. A 2.2-liter with 170 PS is going to be a very popular pick with European customers, thanks to a good combination of power and efficiency.

German engineering, Japanese design

Q30 Premium or Sport models will come with the same engine as the CLA 250 and GLA 250 do in America. It's a 2-liter turbocharged mill that packs 211 PS of goodness. Gearboxes? Well, considering Mercedes was in charge of engineering and development, you shouldn't be surprised by the standard six-speed manual transmission and optional dual-clutch seven-speed. AWD? Yes, you can have that too, but only in combination with the two bigger engines.

Looks are subjective, so we're going to let you decide if the Q30 is prettier than the A-Class. What we can say is that Infiniti have been bold with the size of the grille and the number of curved lines. There isn't another car in this class that looks so good in brown. That's got to count for something, right?

Although we're not fans of the sloping lines and the problems they make for outward visibility, the 368 liters of trunk space prove Infiniti was thinking about practicality.

Our say: As an entry point into the Infiniti lineup, the Q30 is awesome. But it's still only a hatchback, not something all customers want.
