Infiniti really is the ultimate melange of automotive ideas. They're supposed to be Japanese, but have their headquarters in China and will make this Q30 compact from Britain in two years' time.
More details concerning the Q30 were revealed via photos and info on the Frankfurt-bound concept earlier today. Just like most premium cars, the Q30 foregoes normal class constrictions, being one of the largest potential cars in its class. Its dimensions are: 4.46m long, 1.47m high and 1.85m wide.
Supposedly, it rides on the Mercedes MFA platform (A-, B-, CLA- and GLA-Class) and has been designed by Nissan's crossover people.
But let's forget about the technicalities and examine the look of the thing. The purplish concept is supposed to look like a flowing piece of velvet. There's a hint of Mazda3 about it, which probably doesn't make the KODO people very happy. Inside, it's even more avant-garde. The toggles, buttons, switches and knobs are a sort of rose gold and purple LEDs illuminate the whole cabin in a Mercedes S-Class like way.
I can't help but wonder who this car is for, especially since they say this will be their next best-seller. Surely, no American will find it attractive, with its MPV-like bloated hatchback shape. In Europe, Infiniti doesn't have the marketing, the dealers or the resources to make this a true Audi A3/ BMW 1er rival. So perhaps this is the ultimate Asian (read China) market car.
