The world of performance vehicle could welcome a new breed in the future, with the creations being a mix between the European and the Japanese cultures. To be more precise, Infiniti’s future “go-fast” models could be powered by AMG units with the development being a part of the recently established Nissan-Daimler partnership, as autocar reports.
Insiders coming from Japan have told the aforementioned source that the vehicles could even come with “Powered by AMG” badges. One of the potential candidates for the future beefed-up Infiniti models is Mercedes’ upcoming 3.5 liter tuebocharged V6 unit. This would be pumped-up to deliver up to 400 hp and could replace the Japanese carmaker’s 3.7 liter in its G range.
And the story goes on, targeting a future IPL version of the Infiniti M, which could receive AMG’s 6.2 liter V8 powerplant and become a competitor for the German Power War figthers and their rivals.
We’ll remind you that Nissan’s premium arm is currently deciding the faith of the Infiniti Performance Line (IPL). The company’s executives are evaluating multiple potential development pathways, ranging from styling packages to complete performance models.
The IPL was introduced at this year’s edition of the Paris Auto Show, with the presentation of special version of the G coupe and cabrio models.
We can’t overlook the fact that the performance vehicles segment hasn’t been as affected as others by the financial crisis, so it could be possible for Infiniti to become one of the important players of this game.
