Infiniti LE Looks Really Disappointing in Leaked Patent Images

When the next generation of electric car batteries will be ready, Nissan is going to launch an all-new Leaf electric car, together with an Infiniti brother. The more premium of the two will take the form of a small, conventionally styled sedan, already previewed by the the LE concept.

As the model is to enter production in the following couple of years, Infiniti has moved to protect the LE's new design using a patent, which has subsequently been leaked online. We find its design to be unimpressive to say the least. If we didn't know that Infiniti was working on an electric sedan, this car would easily pass as the next Nissan Sentra or Versa – it's that ordinary.

Don't get us wrong: conventionally styled green vehicles are something we are highly appreciative of. Just look at the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid and tell us you aren't tempted. However, what Infiniti is getting wrong probably involves forcing the styling elements of its full-size cars into a little package. The BMW 1 Series has definitely taught us that it's a bad idea.

LE might as well be the initials for Lethargic Elephant. However, the stuff you can't see in the photos is very impressive. Power should come from an electric motor with 134 hp (100 kW) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft), while the battery will give it double the range of current EVs.

Even if the company gets the LE's styling perfectly, it still might have problems selling large numbers. Premium features add to the price of the vehicle, something Cadillac learned with the ELR.
