Infiniti, Nissan’s premium division, is reportedly planning an advanced gasoline engine.
Along with the new unit, the brand will also launch a new mid-size global crossover, expected to replace the ongoing QX50. Details regarding the new power plant are scarce, but it is expected o bring a level of fuel economy usually reserved for diesel units, while power will be close to the abilities of a V6.

Reports claim the new power plant will feature variable compression ratio technology, making the engine the first in the world to reach production with this element. No automaker in the world has unveiled an engine capable of changing its compression ratio, so it will be exciting to see what Nissan has prepared for the new power plant.

Infiniti's next engine is expected to be featured in a new global crossover. Considering the specifications described above by Autocar, we are expecting a four-cylinder engine with turbocharging and direct injection.

Meanwhile, the new SUV from Infiniti is expected to have more driver assistance technologies, which will pave the way for introducing fully autonomous cars in the range in a couple of years time.

Concerning the design of the new Infiniti SUV, the brand has already unveiled a concept car that hinted at the lines that will be followed by the production model. We are writing about the QX Sport Inspiration, a concept that was shown at this year’s Beijing Motor Show. The production version is expected to come to market in 2018.

Infiniti’s best year concerning sales was 2015, when the brand reached a global sales record of 215,250 vehicles. This is an improvement of 16% compared to the results achieved in 2014. The best-selling model in the Infiniti lineup was the Q50, followed by the QX60.

Infiniti’s leading market remains the United States of America, the place where the brand was first launched back in 1989. Nissan’s premium arm is also doing well in China, where it was introduced just a few years ago.
