Infiniti's president, Roland Kruger, has recently stated that the Eau Rouge project could be brought back to life, but he hasn’t specified the exact launch date, mostly because the premium carmaker has more important cars to launch first.
Maybe you remember that, back in 2013, Infiniti released some figures about the Eau Rouge concept. It was powered by the same engine from the mighty GT-R, the twin-turbo 3.8 liter V6, pushing no less than 560hp to all four wheels. With these figures, Infiniti would be back in the fight with Mercedes Benz and BMW with their AMG and M series, respectively.

The concept car was developed and built by RML Group, a company that was mainly responsible for Nissan’s British Touring Championship back in 1999, and the Juke R and Juke-R 2.0, both of which were also powered by the same Godzilla engine.

Eau Rouge has been one of Johan de Nysschen’s projects, maybe his last one, as the former Infiniti CEO has since jumped in Cadillac's boat, having been replaced by BMW’s Roland Kruger. Even if Kruger didn't seem too interested in the project in the beginning, it looks like he is willing to give it another chance in a few years, according to Auto Express.

Until we see this long-awaited sports sedan hit the streets, Kruger says Infiniti must first concentrate on cars like the Q30 and the Q60, both of which will be launched next year and will consolidate the brand's position in the market, because it is still a small company compared to its direct rivals.

The Infiniti Q60 is a response to competitors from BMW, Mercedes, Lexus or Audi, and it will be a premium two-door four seater, powered by a range of engines, with the twin-turbo 3.0 liter V6 from Mercedes-Benz being the tip of the iceberg.

In terms of power, the Q60 will offer as much as 400 horsepower, less than the M4 or the new C63. The same engine would power the Q50 sedan, according to Kruger. No word on whether the future Eau Rouge version would continue down the Nissan GT-R engine route or borrow something from the Mercedes-Benz bin as well.
