Japanese automaker Infiniti has revealed that a long wheelbase version of the Q50 sports sedan will be developed specifically for the Chinese market.
The new long wheelbase Q50 sedan will be produced at Infiniti’s Xiangyang plant in Hubei Province, alongside the manufacturers all-new QX50 crossover SUV, which is also designed for the world’s biggest automotive market. Production is set to begin sometime in 2014.
“China is a key market in Infiniti’s growth strategy,” said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Ltd. “The decision to offer two vehicles specifically designed for the Chinese market and produce them locally, is further evidence of our globalization strategy [...] We are expanding our product portfolio with two new models especially for the Chinese market in 2014 and plans are underway to significantly increase the dealer network from currently 60 to 80 dealers in 2014.”
In other related new, Infiniti debuted the Q50 Hybrid at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. The vehicle is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine coupled to an electric motor that offers a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of around five seconds.
