Indy 500 Champion Al Unser Jr Arrested for DWI

Double Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. faces driving charges that are far from worthy of a race driver’s reputation. He was arrested in Albuquerque, N.M, for street racing and driving unde the influence of alcohol, as AP reports.

The police spotted him driving at over 100 mph (160 km/h) in his Chevrolet Suburban, while drag racing another car. He was charged with reckless driving and aggravated driving while intoxicated. This isn’t the first time when Unser is involved in such a story, as he plead no contest to a DUI charge in a Nevada accident that took place back in 2007.

Unser, who had been retired, still had duties as a driving coach and race control official for IndyCar, the body that sanctions the IZOD Indicar Series and has now been suspended indefinitely.
